Isaiah 6
1 In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple.
2 Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.
3 And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!”
4 And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke.
4 And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke.
5 And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar.
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar.
7 And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”
A Journey through Isaiah
This morning I woke up to the Lord talking to me about how he wants me to handle myself. How to understand myself through his eyes. I want to my bible app and I played Isaiah chapters 1-5. The lord explained
" As you know my people were a promiscuous people, they went their feeling and were moved by sights and sounds. And when the sights and sound were enough they made their own sights and sounds like the gentiles around them. Your first immediate parallel to this story is not them, its the people I raise up to provoke them."
My some what dropped at some of the language and anger God he displayed toward them but then I remember all the things he had done for them. I think to myself " Such was I."
But the text above hit me like a ton of bricks. In true fashion the visions of Isaiah are allegorical and they all have value in each and every moment.
The Breakdown
Verse one: The time or moment when power became power less I saw and see God in all his glory.
- Its when we come to the end of us that we see the most of him.
Verse three: All about him proclaim his greatness, all in his world and all in the world I was invited to proclaiming his glory.
Verse four: When we recognize how great he is the world around trembles at the thought of his name.
Verse five: I recognize in the place of my weakness how weak I actually am. I don't event want to stand here. I am filthy and I am willing to admit this.
Verse six: Based on my willingness to admit my uncleanliness before Him, he sends that which is clean to cleanse me.
Verse seven: The one doing the clean verifies that I am clean and i then have no need to refer to it again.
My Reflection
It is universally understood that this point in the scripture is talking about Isaiah call as prophet. But what can be gleaned is this. The Lord is not slack concerning his promises. He said he would send His Son to died for our sins and he did. He said that we he would come that we might have life ever lasting.
We need look on to the live coal of his word to reminded us of what he has done. We need to remember the searing noise and the intense flame that came right specifically for me so I can experience what he did for every man.
The angel put in the place where there was confess filthy he put purity. Where there was acknowledgement of lack and inability to stand he gave the grace of purification.
This is the lord will in my life. Its not enough to know I am dirty but to confess my dirty before a God who can cleanse me. To point to dark place, the given up place, the stuck place
