Strange Fire

While in prayer this morning I came across some music that I really enjoyed have enjoyed in the past. I happened upon one artist who was under much public scrutiny for his flash and flare. He was and is a very talented singer but the theatrics does go over well with the gospel community.

What is the difference between you being different and being considered strange or intentionally doing different and being classified as strange.

There is wanton pleasure that I admittedly share with others in world to be unique, to be distinct and different. The story of Nadab and Abihu is a warning not to carry this worlds nature into holy context. In fact this desire to stand out and be different fits with what the word strange actually mean in the Hebrew.

Foreign, and unauthorized. There is then distance between what we are doing and how we are doing it and both matter.

Whats more the context of this story is set inside of family which is something for me to fear even the more. The story line of my life in interleaved into this story with these brothers. Not in the sense that my brothers has profane the holy thing but in that there has been an attempt to mix that which unholy with that which is holy.

Its interesting to note that the people who witness the judgment of God on the life of those two was justified and Aaron had to be warned not to mourn. If the call of God on the life his people is not more exalted than family this serves as a clear picture.

The call that God sends to his people is serious to him and we owe to oursleves to treat it with the same seriousness. End the end Ill be like David.

For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.

Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.

The onliest person I am concerned about offending with my conduct is the one to whom I have to give an account.
