The Kingdom Principle of Tithing

Tithe Everything!

While in the shower yesterday I was reflecting on the events of George Floyd I begin to cry. I began to think about the life that was robbed from my family KJ. The sadness and rage that overtook me in the moment made me weep. I could barely utter a prayer but I remember something I watch.

John Perkins the father of the mosaic movement said something that I am is has become my hearts cry. " I want to preach a gospel …." my added piece… that heals so completely that is so redeeming and so powerful that not only renews the heart of the sinful man but it make him live a redeeming life.

I think about how the house of hope can be active in those moments. How this hope in the vision would save lives and open eyes to the truth of God's redeeming, reconciling, reforming love. I can hear the words of Paul and be not conformed to this world, but ye transformed by the renewing of your mind that you might prove what is that good acceptable and perfect will of God.

I want to live in the proof that House of Hope is what God called me to, that is not a a fancy idea and  wonderful dream but a real ministry focused on communicating the heart of the father to broken communities.

While I was weeping and choking out a prayer. I heard the Lord say
" Tithe everything" There is principle associated with the tenth. The first principle of the tenth is that is seen as an offering . The first time we see the tithe we see it in Abraham when he encounters the high priest who pronounced a blessing on him consistent with promise God made Abram.
18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High, 19 and he blessed Abram, saying,
“Blessed be Abram by God Most High,
    Creator of heaven and earth.
20 And praise be to God Most High,
who delivered your enemies into your hand.” Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.

The calling to tithe everything shake through with eerie accuracy. I have been looking at the connection between the things I have been studying and things I have been experiencing and allowing them to sit separately without seeing the connection between the two.  Understanding that I have been given something with which to execute the life that God has for me and like Abraham I am gaining more. Alas I get more and more confused the more I think about what I have and where I am currently and I can only assume it for where I am going. But this call is different.

Give a tenth of everything you have. Your time, talent, energy and love passion and devotion. Give it all.

The next question becomes how do we get  to tithing only money and only being a financial reality? Does is devolve from how it was orginally used in the time of Moses?

Leviticus 27
30 “‘A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord. 31 Whoever would redeem any of their tithe must add a fifth of the value to it. 32 Every tithe of the herd and flock—every tenth animal that passes under the shepherd’s rod—will be holy to the Lord. 33 No one may pick out the good from the bad or make any substitution. If anyone does make a substitution, both the animal and its substitute become holy and cannot be redeemed.’”

The law book I like to call this but what I like about this law book is that it setting the structure for kind of life that God want his people to live. A tithe of EVERYTHING from the land, cattle belong to the Lord.

Numbers 18
12 All the best of the oil, and all the best of the wine, and of the wheat, the firstfruits of them which they shall offer unto the Lord, them have I given thee.13 And whatsoever is first ripe in the land, which they shall bring unto the Lord, shall be thine; every one that is clean in thine house shall eat of it.14 Every thing devoted in Israel shall be thine.15 Every thing that openeth the matrix in all flesh, which they bring unto the Lord, whether it be of men or beasts, shall be thine: nevertheless the firstborn of man shalt thou surely redeem, and the firstling of unclean beasts shalt thou redeem.16 And those that are to be redeemed from a month old shalt thou redeem, according to thine estimation, for the money of five shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, which is twenty gerahs.17 But the firstling of a cow, or the firstling of a sheep, or the firstling of a goat, thou shalt not redeem; they are holy: thou shalt sprinkle their blood upon the altar, and shalt burn their fat for an offering made by fire, for a sweet savour unto the Lord.18 And the flesh of them shall be thine, as the wave breast and as the right shoulder are thine.

20 And the Lord spake unto Aaron, Thou shalt have no inheritance in their land, neither shalt thou have any part among them: I am thy part and thine inheritance among the children of Israel.21 And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.22 Neither must the children of Israel henceforth come nigh the tabernacle of the congregation, lest they bear sin, and die.23 But the Levites shall do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they shall bear their iniquity: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations, that among the children of Israel they have no inheritance.24 But the tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer as an heave offering unto the Lord, I have given to the Levites to inherit: therefore I have said unto them, Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.25 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,26 Thus speak unto the Levites, and say unto them, When ye take of the children of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then ye shall offer up an heave offering of it for the Lord, even a tenth part of the tithe.27 And this your heave offering shall be reckoned unto you, as though it were the corn of the threshingfloor, and as the fulness of the winepress.28 Thus ye also shall offer an heave offering unto the Lord of all your tithes, which ye receive of the children of Israel; and ye shall give thereof the Lord'S heave offering to Aaron the priest.

The established order of God for his people included the principle of the tithe with a statement " The firstling and first things belong to the Lord." Here he say something a little different but study may  prove not much different, the lord commended the tithe to sustain the levites…the preist. I have given the levites a tenth of israel.

The principle of everything is well in affect in this statement.

Deutronomy 12

Then give the same flame to conversation but reinforeces the concept of the levite being sustiained.

Luke and Matthew

Tell of response the Jesus has towards the pharisee….He says " You give your money and herbs but you forget the weighter mattes." Otherwords this was not everything he had. The tax man understood the position of tithing required to give more than what they had but what they were.

The tie in the conversation to this moment is settled in this notion. That what God see us as his preisthood in the order of Christ. He see us as the one whom he has entrusted his work of reconcilation. To that end he requires the tithe.

The simple terms with which I am describing this but I feel the urge to invest tithe of 10% of my time, talent and income to the Lord in both devotion study and preparation.
